Job Description:

SUMMARY

The Director of Nursing is responsible for developing, planning, implementing, and managing all aspects of nursing services across the continuum of care. The DON is responsible for ensuring that all nursing services are delivered in accordance with established standards and regulations in compliance with licensing and credentialing requirements for DPH, Joint Commission, BSAS/BHDDH, HRSA. Works with multi-disciplinary departments to ensure and facilitate compliance with all Quality Assurance, Improvement standards and Infection Control. Responsible for the design, leadership of an infection prevention and control program

This position is a member of quality committees, attends P&T, Medical Staff, Leadership, UR and rotates as Clinician on Call.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Director of Nursing manages and oversees all aspects of the nursing in coordination with the Medical Director and facility CEO.
  • Holds interviews for vacant positions and appropriately selects candidates to fill open positions.
  • The Director of Nursing is responsible for hiring, orienting, retention, coaching/monitoring all nursing staff.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to supervisory level personnel as needed to help maximize managerial performance and ability.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all shifts are covered with appropriate nursing levels, maintains staffing matrixes, and actively manages payroll budget.
  • Develop and implement facility wide infection surveillance in all patient care areas to develop policies and procedures that adhere to nationally recognized guidelines.
  • The Director of Nursing develops education programs across the department ensuring Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement
  • Provides appropriate training for department and holds staff accountable for completing required trainings & maintaining licenses/certifications.
  • Ensures timely preparation and presentation of performance evaluations and competencies. Makes appropriate compensation recommendations based on employees’ performance during the performance year. 
  • Supervise, monitor, and document staff delivery of all nursing services. Provides objective timely feedback to employees as needed, following 90-day on boarding or annual performance review.
  • Supervise all nursing staff to ensure that all nursing documentation and nursing care requirements are met pursuant to regulatory standards and practice and is in compliance with all licensing and credentialing regulations and standards.
  • Rounds the various services to provide support to leadership and guidance to nursing personnel day activities; ensures staffing needs are met, ensures timely admissions to the floor, responds to any questions and/or relates changes.
  • Responds to emergency codes when appropriate. 
  • Ongoing inspection of medical records to ensure compliance with QI & QA Policy & Procedures, as well as all other regulatory, and clinical and medical standards.
  • Ensure all required detox services and protocols are met and delivered in a timely manner and pursuant to regulatory standards and requirements.
  • Orders or provides oversight to the ordering of stock medications and supplies for inpatient services.
  • Signs off on nursing payroll bi-weekly, ensures that Time Sheets are completed prior to adjusting payroll.
  • Creates and supports a positive, professional, team-oriented, harassment free work environment by understanding and complying with the company’s policies.
  • Treats patients, and colleagues with dignity and respect; honors each person’s right to privacy/ maintains very strict patient and colleague confidentiality; respects all individual differences; supports cultural diversity.
  • Notifies CEO for time out of the facility and how and who will be covering for absences.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Nursing personnel working across the continuum. Provides nursing best practices/guidance across multiple services.

Experience and Skills:

Education & Experience

  • BSN required and at least 8 years of experience as a registered nurse with 4 years in progressive management, supervisory or director-level roles in treatment facilities or hospital settings.
  • Minimum of two years of addiction experience preferred; knowledge of SUD treatment preferred.
  • RN License in State of practice
  • Certification in Addiction preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret written information; write clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar. Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; demonstrates group presentation skills; and participates in meetings.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • EMR experience
  • Budgeting experience and ability to address and adjust for budget variances.
  • CPR and AED certification.
  • CARN preferred.
