Job Description:

SSTAR is seeking an Acupuncturist to provide individual and group acupuncture to patients in a variety of programs. Primary areas of focus for acupuncturist includes alleviation of pain, mental health disorders and substance use disorders.  The acupuncturist treats in both Community Health Center and Ambulatory Behavioral Health Center settings as directed by their supervisor 

Part time or Full time   Pay range from $35- $40 an hour depending on experience.



  • Providing acupuncture treatments in accordance with the laws, regulations and guidelines of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for the practice of acupuncture (243 CMR 4.00 and 5.00. the Practice of Acupuncture) and the SSTAR Policy and Procedures Manuals.
  • Providing group/community acupuncture treatments in ABH for a three hour shift daily, or as designated.
  • Providing acupuncture assessment and treatment for pain management in Health Center patients according to individual diagnosis and differentiation.
  • Providing group acupuncture for staff and/or community as part of specific initiatives, such as smoking cessation.
  • Reviewing patient medical records and determining appropriateness of treatment prior to sessions. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the clinical status of the patient.
  • Providing care as part of a multidisciplinary team which includes support staff, clinicians, and administrators. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ensuring all documentation required prior to initial visit is complete. This includes but is not limited to referral or order from an authorizing provider and consent form.
  • Completing documentation requirements in accordance with SSTAR and professional licensing requirements.
  • Documenting all treatments in EHR and maintain appropriate documentation to satisfy billing requirements.
  • Providing education to staff and clients regarding acupuncture; be available for questions and concerns.
  • Maintaining patient's confidentiality at all times.
  • Attending team meetings and scheduled supervision.

Experience and Skills:


  • Board of Registration in Medicine; Committee on Acupuncture current and valid Commonwealth of Massachusetts license to practice acupuncture.
  • Must meet SSTAR’s credentialing requirements.
  • Completed training in an accredited acupuncture school. Master’s degree in Acupuncture or Acupuncture and Oriental medicine or equivalent from an accredited school.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working as a licensed acupuncturist.
  • Group acupuncture experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of substance use and mental health disorders, current treatment practices.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to make appropriate clinical judgements of the patient health status to provide safe acupuncture.
  • Understand patient's needs and present information clearly.
  • Professional and caring approach with patients in all phases of illness.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work with a diverse population.
  • Knowledge and good practice of universal precautions including hand hygiene and COVID-19 protocols.
  • Follows established procedures and policies related to the care of patients.
