Job Description:

SSTAR is looking for enthusiastic and independent Recovery Support Navigators (RSN) to build a supportive team for a new observation unit at SSTAR. The Overdose Prevention Program (OPP) is a medical unit where people who have recently overdosed on drugs or who are intoxicated are monitored to ensure they are safe. Because the unit is brand new, Recovery Support Navigators will be actively involved in shaping the workflow and culture of the unit to best serve our patients. As a team, we will be working to create a positive and supportive environment for patients and staff with a diversity of backgrounds and experiences.

This is an ambulatory unit that will be open from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Mon- Fri.

Specific Responsibilities

  • RSN's work collaboratively with nurses and harm reduction specialists to help patients prevent future overdoses and decrease the risks associated with drug use
  • Recovery Support Navigators provide basic harm reduction counseling
  • Engage with clients to provide emotional support, mentoring and coaching
  • Recovery Support Navigators help patients to navigate the healthcare system including helping patients to access primary care, behavioral health and addiction treatment
  • Coordinate care among a patient’s healthcare providers
  • Help patients to access social services
  • Help patients to arrange transportation
  • Other duties as required

Experience and Skills:

Qualifications

  • An interest in applying the principles of harm reduction to patient care
  • Recovery coach training (must be approved by Massachusetts EOHHS)
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • At least 2 years of continuous sobriety for those in recovery from drugs or alcohol use
  • Full or part time welcome
