Job Description:

The Medical Assistant/Outreach Worker will conduct outreach among vulnerable populations, provide harm reduction services, assist provider to meet client’s medical needs both on the medical RV and in the community.

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Assist provider to perform medical care on medical RV or in the community.
  2. Take vital signs and assist with coordination of client care.
  3. Interview client to determine their level of knowledge, attitudes, and behavior regarding HIV, hepatitis C, STI’s, substance use, and harm reduction.
  4. Provide overdose education to clients, clean needle exchange, and distribute naloxone.
  5. Conduct outreach in the community setting and build relationships with local venues.
  6. Assess potential barriers to care and work with clients to reduce obstacles resulting from lack of transportation, mental illness, substance use, etc.
  7. Develop appropriate client referrals internally and externally to the organization.
  8. Collect data on program activities, enter data timely, and accurately into data systems.
  9. Attend relevant trainings and participate in regional meeting assigned.
  10. Stay informed about current HIV/HCV/STI/SUD trends, development, and research.
  11. Flexible with role to be able to assist team.
  12. Other tasks as needed.

Experience and Skills:

Qualifications

  1. High school graduate with two years of full-time experience in the field of healthcare, medical care or public health education in a recognized hospital, medical facility, or agency.
  2. Medical assistant training and working with a provider preferred.
  3. Sensitivity to HIV issues, people with substance use disorder, and people with disabilities.
  4. Strong desire to work with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and lifestyles in a non-judgmental manner is required.
  5. Strong computer skills and knowledge of substance use disorder are required.
  6. Flexibility with schedule preferred.
