Job Description:

Integrated HIV Counseling and Testing

Work as part of a dynamic team to provide informational counseling services to individuals who are at significant risk for HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI).

Interview clients to determine their knowledge, attitude, and behavior regarding HIV Disease, viral hepatitis and other STI.

Follow-up activities to assess implications of testing and the impact of a positive or negative result.

 

Assist in Risk Reduction Planning and Harm Reduction Education for people battling addiction and men who have sex with men.

 

Conduct educational groups in substance treatment/mental health facility.

Experience and Skills:

Bi-Lingual skills are preferred in order to perform the duties of this position. High School graduate with two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional or para-professional experience in the field of health care, medical care, or public health education in a recognized hospital, medical facility or agency. Certified or willing to be trained as a phlebotomist. Communication skills including public speaking. Must be open to working with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and lifestyles in a non-judgmental manner. Sensitivity to HIV issues and people with disabilities required. Bi-lingual in Portuguese or Spanish preferred.At least two years continuous sobriety is required for people in recovery from drugs or alcohol
